Last week at Synod we received permission for cessation of worship in our current building, and yet as we gathered to worship this morning there was a sense of anticipation and even excitement for the future emanating from this small congregation. Over coffee and gathered around a table we sang hymns and prayed, and considered how the story of The Ascension might speak to us.
What we came away with was this; this is not the end it is a new beginning, the building we are leaving behind is not fit for purpose, and it is time to leave it behind, right now we cannot see or know the future and while we are living on the threshold of it...
We pondered the fact that this should be a part of normal Christian and Church life, that we should not be constantly looking for somewhere to settle and consolidate, but should actively be always asking what and where next...
The Apostles had their world turned upside down by the events of the resurrection, Ascension and Pentecost, we've been tipped out of our comfort zone, so now we are waiting to see what God will do, and we wait (now) with a sense of excitement and anticipation...
