I really get fed up when people say things like "I don't do theology", or "theology is all about accademics", or worse when folk declare that "theology destroys faith." Websters dictionary tells us that:
Theology is the study of the nature of God: the study of religious faith, practice, and experience; especially : the study of God and of God's relation to the world....
The Oxford dictionary reminds us that it is derived from the Greek "theos" God and Logia- denoting an area of interest- therefore theology is an interest in the nature of God...
How odd then that folk who do not like theology often go on to expound their views on God, and how strange that they denounce theologians; unless of course they happen to agree with them, but then of course theology ceases to be theology and becomes truth...
Hmm, I think I'll stick to theology.
