I was preparing the Bible Study for this evening; we are working through the E100 in our own slow and unique way. After a number of weeks we have reached the Exodus account of the parting of the red sea...
We read of the reluctant Israelite community on the move, already hankering after the comforts of Egypt (having seemingly forgotten the oppression it faced there)...
And I am struck by one phrase, one phrase amidst all the turmoil of mobilising thousands of people, men women and children....one phrase against the fear fueled by of the approaching Egyptian Army... two words...
BE STILL....
Be still, breathe, trust God... BE STILL.
Do not be afraid, stand firm, be still.
I am struck by the depth of challenge that those two words bring to us, how difficult it is for us in our quick fix must find a solution mindsets to trust God and to be still. We even find it difficult to be still in prayer, to listen, to wait, to come to that place where at the end of ourselves we are still. Still before God...
And I wonder why we find this so difficult, even repellent, and certainly unproductive...?
I'd be interested in your thoughts...
