All is empty here,
and quiet,
darkness wraps
the house,
while with icy intent
the wind
breathes through
the branches
by my window...
I gaze into
the velvet
blue black sky,
searching, seeking,
but no stars
glint through the night,
and my question
is for now
unanswered...
How long?
how long,
how long
will you have
us wait?
Oh I know,
I am not prepared,
but I am hungry,
hungry
and thirsty
for your presence,
and oh so tired
of your absence.
My soul aches,
my spirit longs...
I need to
be led by you...
So tonight
I will light
a candle
in the darkness,
a symbol of hope
for a weary world.
Come Holy Spirit,
strengthen my heart
through this waiting time,
wash my soul clean,
heal me,
and make me whole.
Come shine through me
until my darkness is pushed back
and I walk in the
light
with you
again.
In the run up to Christmas it is so easy to forget that Advent is a season for reflection and preparation, repentance and new beginnings.
