This morning I led two very different services to celebrate Mothering Sunday, the first was more traditional, the second a Cafe style Service. The first one turned out to be more eventful than I had anticipated we ended up with three Police Cars and an ambulance, all because one vulnerable young adult in the congregation had been abused by her brother. He has been arrested.
The second Service in Sherburn in Elmet Chapel was eventful to but in a different way, we planned a Cafe Style Service, and this was combined with a Baptism. We began with prayer and then I invited everyone to collect a drink, we also had cakes set out on tables and these were very well received!
Once everyone was seated we moved into a slightly more formal time of prayer followed by a hymn, and then again into a more informal time where people were invited to engage with the interactive prayer stations or to take part in some of the craft activities.
Then we moved back together to hear a short message and for the Baptism,
The service was well received by some, including the baptism party, and not by others, we will have a lot to talk about at our next formal church meeting.
