After the rush and busyness of moving I am finally sitting in my study and contemplating the time ahead, as is so often the case with moves there have been times of stress and unnecessary cross words and short tempers. Before we go any further I hope that I can persuade my family to join me in this house blessing adapted from St Brigid's welcoming blessings published by the Northumbria Community.
This afternoon some young friends will be arriving for a BBQ celebration, I want to welcome them to a place of peace, joy and blessing… just as I want to welcome all those who will follow them….
At the door
May God give his blessing to the house that is here.
God bless this house from roof to floor,
from wall to wall,
from end to end,
from its foundation to its covering.
In the name of the Triune God
all evil be banished
all disturbance cease
captive spirits freed,
God's Spirit alone dwell within these walls.
Come Spirit of love
Fill this space, this place with your fire.
The living room
There is a friend's love in the gentle heart of the Saviour,
for him we offer friendship
and welcome every guest.
Lord kindle in my heart a flame of love to my neighbour
to my enemies, my friends and kin folk all.
Come Spirit of love
Fill this space, this place with your fire.
The Dinning room
May all who are welcomed here be welcomed in the name of Christ,
may all who are fed here be fed in the name of Christ,
as the warmth of food and friendship fills our may we also be filled with
Christ's love.
Come Spirit of love
Fill this space, this place with your fire.
The Conservatory
May this room of light be a place
of light and joy.
Come Spirit of love
Fill this space, this place with your fire.
The kitchen
Let the food prepared here, and the hospitality offered here,
be offered in the name of Christ.
As we welcome the poor and the rich
the sick and the strong with equal honour and care.
Come Spirit of love
Fill this space, this place with your fire.
The Studies
Let these rooms be places of dedication and inspiration,
where Christ is honoured and served
as we offer our lives and minds to his service.
Come Spirit of love
Fill this space, this place with your fire.
Bedrooms
Peace be here in the name of the King of life,
the peace of Christ above all peace
the Lord's blessing over you.
Back at the door
Christ, in our coming and our leaving
the door and the keeper
for us and our dear ones
this day and every day
blessing for always. AMEN
