I was feeling good about life yesterday, I've been able to keep up a regular exercise regimen practicing at least 30 minutes of Tai-Chi every day, and I'm really feeling the benefits of it. I'd been into Ely with Tim, and bought a set of Alexander McCall-Smiths No 1 Ladies Detective Agency novels with some book tokens which had been very kindly given to me by my placement Church at Watton. In the afternoon having declared the day a day off I walked into town for a haircut.
All was good until Paul my eldest son called to tell me his blood sugar had gone through the roof and he was monitoring it. Paul is a type 1 diabetic and relies upon good diet control and insulin injections to remain healthy. His girlfriend is concerned because he has not been caring for himself very well, and had taken Pro-Plus caffeine tablets regularly while revising for his exams.
Diabetes is a difficult thing to manage at times of stress, stress can wreak havoc with your sugar levels, most of us have bodies that simply deal with the excess, diabetics cannot. Add to that a poor diet and you have a recipe for disaster. So what to do? My son is 26, he is an adult, how much can I interfere? He tells everyone his diet is good, and I think he thinks it is, it certainly is when he is not stressed....
Right now I am praying, I want to go to Paul's graduation and wedding not his funeral, he is getting married in July. This morning he was taken into hospital as his blood sugar was still extremely high at a level of 32 mmol/L, rather than the preferred 7mmol/L!
This afternoon, after I have taken the morning service ( which will be a good thing for me to do, prayer is always good, sometimes especially with others) I will go into the hospital, and hopefully persuade Paul to ask the staff there about stress management. If you've read this please spare a little time to pray. Thank you
