We have just had 10 days away, and not away as a family; the complications of vacationing with older teens and 20's have made life interesting, but I really do feel as if I have had a good break. We would have stayed until the weekend but gale force winds, driving rain, and our caravan awning and the tents weren't agreeing with one another, so we packed up and came home last night.
The first part of the break I have blogged as I collected various bodies from home and brought them back again, North West Norfolk Week delivered wonderful weather, wonderful views, and due to the sailing abilities of my family not a few bottles of wine ( they always finished in the top 3).
Sunday evening we delivered a car load of bodies home and then Tim and I went back to the beach for a night to ourselves- this was punctuated by the air-sea rescue helicopter and the in-shore life boat rescuing some daft folk who'd walked out to the shipping channel and become stranded when the tide came in behind them. There are notices everywhere alerting folk to the dangers, but still they do it, lured by the calm looking sands and the sun.
We ate later than we'd anticipated after all that excitement, but it didn't matter a good bottle of red helped the meal down, it felt strange to be alone!
Monday brought strong winds so we ditched the anticipated sail in favour of a walk, Snettisham Marshes are stunning this time of year as the sea lavender is just coming out, and the mix of greens and purples make a glorious patchwork laced by tiny creeks and inlets.
Monday evening we enjoyed another evening to ourselves less interruptions this time and a glorious sunset...
Tuesday we walked again, then Emma and Ralph came over to join us, we read, they swam (crazy pair), then enjoyed a very civilised (ish) evening meal together, broken up by dashing outside to photograph the most amazing sunset yet, but it had to be done... It is an interesting shift for a parent to suddenly be sharing an evening meal and a few bottles of wine with your child and their significant other... puts you on an even footing, yet not quite...
Wednesday and another walk ; the wind and waves were amazing, I find it so easy to worship God when faced with the elements force in that way... there is something both transcendent and immanent about her presence creating and recreating the sea shore, .....words fail me
Wednesday evening we gave up, packed up and came home, the prospect of the gale force winds and driving rain that were forecast did not appeal to us in any way...
There is so much more to say and I guess bits will pop up over the next few weeks...
I have so much to be thankful for- and too often I forget to give thanks...
