"I'd like to die
on Easter Sunday";
there was a fire
in her eyes,
a determination
in her voice...
"I want to
give death
a poke in the eye,
let it know it hasn't won..."
*
And it hasn't won,
for despite the cancer
her hope
is undiminished,
and she is the
spiritual giant
in the room.
Gripped with pain
she smiles and says,
"I know it's not the end,
but I want them to know too".
*
And "they"
(her family)
sit close by
and wonder
at her strength.
I hope she makes it
to Easter Sunday,
that her prayer is answered,
and I pray
with her
that it might be so...
*
As for death,
she looks it
in the face,
and knows
for sure,
it is
already
defeated.
